Dalmatian

Dalmatian is a solution for scheduling and playing advertisements and other programming, called spots, during satellite breaks. Spots and breaks can be created, updated, and deleted in the Manager application. Meanwhile, the Player application maintains a queue of upcoming breaks. When the first break's time finally comes, Dalmatian plays all of its spots, removes it from the queue, and then starts over with the next one.

Because spots are generally identified by title, year, and who paid for them, Dalmatian Manager also keeps track of sponsors. Their name, address, and phone number are all stored. For that reason, if the radio station would like to, Dalmatian can be used as a form of record keeping. Soon Dalmatian will keep track of how many times a spot has been played to aide in that effort.

In addition, as an added bonus, Dalmatian includes several small utilties for recording audio from a satellite feed. The resulting spots can be used for later playback.

Written primarily in Java and using the popular MySQL database, Dalmatian is cross-platform with solid foundations. Built to be reliable and maintainable, its functionality is divided into simple, well-tested components that build upon each other in a logical way.

Finally, Dalmatian is being developed by Andrew Brown in cooperation with WATS-WAVR in Sayre, Pennsylvania. Please take a look at the User Guide and How It Works pages for more information.
